social skills

Does your child have difficulties making or keeping friends? Do they act appropriately in social situations?

Our therapists are here to “tutor” your child regarding the ins and outs of socializing. Schools teach children how to read, write, and do math, but they don’t teach their students how to socialize. We have many children who report difficulties with group projects or gym class (not being chosen) which leads to upset and feeling left out. We will work with you and your child to teach them the skills necessary in order to feel more comfortable and a part of the group.

We also offer group therapy so please visit our Group Counseling page for more information.

Signs of social difficulties include:

  • Having poor eye contact
  • Tone of voice
  • Personal space awareness
  • Acts immature for one’s age.
  • Difficulties initiating or joining in a conversation.
  • Criticizing others without realizing the social impact.
  • Interrupts others or only talks about topics that interest them.
