Founded in 2013 by Lisa Hillman, MSW, LCSW, CP, Exceptional Wellness Counseling began with a simple mission: to help more families access the mental health support they needed. What started as a solo practice specializing in therapy for children and teens quickly grew as more individuals and families in Monmouth County reached out for guidance and care. Recognizing the growing need for accessible, compassionate mental health services, Lisa expanded the practice to ensure more people could receive the support they were searching for.
Today, Exceptional Wellness Counseling has grown into a team of more than 40 clinicians and nearly 60 dedicated professionals serving clients across the lifespan. With offices in Manalapan and Shrewsbury, we continue to support individuals, children, teens, and families throughout Monmouth County and beyond. While our team has grown, our commitment remains the same: creating a welcoming space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported while receiving thoughtful therapist matching and personalized care.

I have worked at EWC for 3 years as a full time therapist. Right from the very beginning I was amazed by how friendly and welcoming the entire staff have been. The clinical staff are very helpful and often collaborate in our really nice staff kitchen. There is sincere caring by the owner and all the staff. We have amazing quarterly outings and perks like chair massage coming into the office, bonuses, free or reimbursed CEU classes and my favorite catered lunch on a regular basis. Staff are supported and encouraged to grow professionally. I’ve really enjoyed not having to worry about billing problems and the consistency with pay has taken the stress out of payday!
